A progressive and innovative legal services business is seeking an experienced Assistant Accountant to join its growing finance team.

Working remotely and reporting to the Management Accountant and Financial Controller, you'll play a key role in maintaining the accuracy of the financial records, supporting month-end reporting and ensuring the integrity of the balance sheet across multiple entities.
This role would suit an ambitious Assistant Accountant who enjoys getting into the detail, solving problems and continually looking for ways to improve processes.
The Role
Key responsibilities will include:
- Maintaining the integrity of the nominal ledger across multiple entities.
- Preparing and posting journals, including accruals, prepayments and adjustments.
- Completing detailed balance sheet reconciliations and investigating reconciling items.
- Supporting month-end and year-end close processes.
- Assisting with the preparation of monthly management accounts.
- Reconciling control accounts and ensuring financial information remains accurate and complete.
- Supporting budgeting and forecasting activities.
- Assisting with audit preparation and responding to auditor queries.
- Identifying opportunities to strengthen financial controls and improve processes.
- Working closely with the Management Accountant and wider finance team on reporting and ad hoc projects.
- Supporting the continued implementation of AI tools and technology within the finance function.
About You
We're looking for someone who combines strong technical accounting skills with a proactive, inquisitive approach.
You will ideally have:
- A minimum of three years' experience in an Assistant Accountant or similar finance position.
- AAT qualification or maybe studying towards ACCA, CIMA
- Strong experience completing balance sheet reconciliations.
- Excellent understanding of bookkeeping.
- Experience posting journals, accruals, prepayments and month-end adjustments.
- Good knowledge of month-end accounting processes.
- Advanced Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, XLOOKUPs, SUMIFS and data analysis.
- Excellent analytical skills and meticulous attention to detail.
- The confidence to investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies independently.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to build effective working relationships.
- The ability to work independently in a fully remote environment.
Experience working across multiple entities, within the legal sector or using AI tools in finance would be advantageous but is by no means essential.
