A well-established and growing business operating across the civil engineering and construction sector is looking to appoint an Accounts Assistant to join its supportive finance team in West Cumbria.
This is an excellent opportunity, newly created due to growth. It suits someone organised and detail-focused finance, seeking a varied role within a fast-paced and friendly environment. The successful candidate will play a key role supporting the day-to-day financial operations of a dynamic and expanding business.
The Opportunity
Working closely with the Finance Manager and wider operational teams, you will be responsible for supporting transactional finance activities, maintaining accurate financial records, and ensuring the smooth running of finance processes across the business.

Key Responsibilities
- Processing high volumes of purchase invoices accurately and efficiently
- Reconciling supplier statements and resolving invoice queries
- Carrying out bank reconciliations and assisting with month-end processes
- Supporting payroll administration and subcontractor applications
- Assisting with VAT returns and maintaining accurate financial records
- Providing finance support across multiple areas of the business
- Building positive relationships with suppliers, subcontractors , and internal stakeholders
About You
The ideal candidate will:
- Have previous experience within a busy finance environment or accountancy practice
- Possess excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
- Be confident managing multiple tasks and prioritising workload effectively
- Have strong communication skills and a proactive approach
- Ideally have experience with Xero and/or CIS, although this is not essential
- Be AAT qualified or currently studying towards AAT (desirable)
Previous experience within construction, civil engineering, utilities, or a related industry would be advantageous but is not essential.
